Lotus Sambrani is a K Shanmugasamy Nadar firm established on humble beginnings as a cottage industry in 1976 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu and engaged in manufacturing and supplying a wide range of instant Sambrani, Benzoin Resin and Sandal Incense Sticks to the clients.

In 1980's Lotus Sambrani 1 kg bars were sold in the market and in the 1990's LOTUS brand gold foil consumer packs were added to the product range. Instant Sambrani was launched in 2000 and in 2010 Cup sambrani and cones were introduced to the market. Our products are manufactured under systematic supervision utilising quality raw materials like Indian and Indonesian gum damars, gum resins and high class perfumes. Our motive is to make the traditional Sambrani i.e. Benzoin Resin products in more suitable for the current trend and lifestyle. Hence Lotus brand Sambrani gives out good smoke with a fantastic fragrance.

Today the firm has grown into an SSI unit and is one of the largest manufacturers of benzoin resin in the country with an annual production capacity of 1000 tonnes. Benzoin Resin

The balsamic resin obtained from the bark of several species of trees in the genus Styrax is called Benzoin resin or Styrax resin. It is used in perfumes, some kinds of incense, as a flavouring and medicine (see tincture of benzoin). It is principal component is Benzoic Acid. Commonly known as "benzoin". it is called "benzoin resin" here to distinguish it from the crystalline compound benzoin. Its name came via the Italian from the Arabic Lubān jāwī (لبان خاوي, “frankincense from Java”), because it was brought from Indonesia. The Catalan traders, who bought Luban Jawi from Moorish traders, modified the word by changing a to e and omitting the lu to Benjawi. Italians further changed it Intobenjuì, and in Latin it became ultimately known as Benzoë. Benzoin resin is a common ingredient in incense-making and perfumery because of its vanilla ice-cream aroma and fixative properties.
